Golf Tournament Predictions: PGA Championship 8/9/17

Ben Hogan. Gary Player.

It's not Tiger Woods at Torrey Pines. I think he makes for a good dark horse option to win his first major.

Jordan Spieth comes into this tournament with a lot of momentum.

"I'm not coming in with the best momentum in the world right now, but we are going to go out there and hopefully be as committed as possible, be confident and hit some good shots", Garcia said.

"I don't need to be the youngest".

"Do I have to be the youngest?" I'm simply stating, there won't be added expectations or pressure.

"I think if you look at this year, the U.S. Open played more like a PGA normally plays, and this one might play more like a U.S. Open normally plays", Sweden's 2016 British Open victor told Reuters after his Wednesday practice.

A view of the eighth tee box and the seventh green during a practice round for the 2017 PGA Championship at Quail Hollow Club. They have as much chance of winning as the aging past champions at the Masters or British Open.

Jordan Spieth made a slow start in his quest to complete the career grand slam, though two late birdies salvaged a one-over-par 72 at the PGA Championship on Thursday.

"When I won (the PGA) at Valhalla in 2014, having that long wait until the Masters in 2015 felt like a very long time".

One man who needs a win to redeem his season is Adam Scott. Dreams become nightmares. The longer they play, the more they underachieve in the minds of those who look at golf as a succession of losses interspersed with occasional victory.

"The British, I won without really feeling like I was putting well at all. Each major provides such a different set of challenges".

Anirban Lahiri, who failed to make the cut at the The Open Championship earlier last month, will be making his fourth PGA Championship appearance. He has not won anywhere since. (He'd finish second in four U.S. Opens). So it's a platform for our association and the best 20 players in our association to show the world that they play the game at a high level. I like PGA Championship setups. He has played here seven times and has finished out of the top 10 just once.

Johnson missed the cut in his attempt at defending his US Open crown, before finishing 16 shots behind victor Jordan Spieth in a tie for 54th place at last month's Open Championship. He was six months shy of 25. Up until 2007, the unofficial "fifth major" was played in the weeks before The Masters.

Certainly, Spieth and McIlroy, more so than Mickelson, have time on their side. Starting in 2019, the final major will be The Open Championship.

"I can absolutely understand some of the logic, and if it ends up as resulting in more people watching our game, then that's a great outcome".

Adam Scott gets his PGA Championship first round underway at 3.05am AEST and Marc Leishman begins at 3.20am. "So it'd be kind of a cool thing to be able to say that you won all four".
